A Tour of the Cepļi Pottery Workshop

Welcome to the Cepļi ceramics workshop — school groups and adult groups alike are invited to discover the wondrous transformation of clay. This culturally enriching tour offers the chance to learn about the history of ceramic traditions in Latvia in the context of ceramic traditions worldwide, and about the types of ceramic materials (clay, glazes), their origins, and their diverse uses. The tour includes a viewing of the traditional black/smoked kiln and the Japanese Anagama (cave kiln), a pottery wheel demonstration, and a visit to the "Ligzda" gallery. There's also the chance to purchase ceramic pieces and souvenirs made at Cepļi.

The tour is made all the more memorable by Cepļi's beautiful landscaped garden, with its rich variety of flowers and flowering shrubs — from rhododendrons in May, peonies and bee balm in June, phlox and lilies in July, to lovely hydrangeas lasting into autumn. Come and enjoy it!
